The Mycological Society of India conducted the 39th Annual meeting of the Mycological society of India along with the National Symposium on " Current Perspectives of Fungi in Health Care and Environment (KAVAASTHA " which was organized by Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Bangalore University, Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalore-560056 during 13th and 14 th March 2013.

Minutes of the 39th Annual Meeting of Mycological Society of India held at Bangalore University, Bangalore along with National seminar on Current Perspectives of Fungi in Health Care and Environment (KAVAASTHA) during 13th and 14th March, 2013.

The inaugural function of the Conference was held on 13th March, 2013 at Bangalore University, Jnana Bharathi Campus, and Bangalore. Prof. B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University offered Presidential address and he inaugurated the conference. Prof. S.K. Sarangi, Chairman, Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Bangalore University and Prof. N.Raaman, Secretary, MSI welcomed the gathering. Prof. S.B. Sullia, Jain University, Bangalore briefed about the conference. Prof. G. Bagyanarayana, President, MSI offered the Presidential remarks. Dr. J. Savitha, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

Soon after the inaugural session, Prof. G. Bagyanarayana, President, MSI delivered the Presidential address entitled "Rust Fungi in India". Prof. N.S. Atri, Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala delivered the Dr.V. Agnihothrudu Memorial Lecture on "Mushroom systematics, evaluation and conservation - some cardinal principles". Dr. M.V. Deshpande, Chief Scientist, AcSIR, NCL, Pune delivered the Prof. K. Natarajan Memorial Lecture on "Metarhizium anisopliae, an entamopathogenic fungus: Mycological aspects in plant protection".

The Executive Council Meeting was held on the evening of 12th March.2013 and the General Body Meeting of the Society was held on the evening of 13th March.2013 at Venkatagiri Gowda Auditorium, Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalore University, Bangalore. The meeting was chaired by Prof. G. Bagyanarayana, President, MSI. Prof.N.Raaman, Secretary welcomed the gatherings and he presented the Report of the Secretary. Prof.N.Raaman informed that the present team of Office bearers with Prof.G.Bagyanarayana, President Prof. D.J. Bagyaraj, Past President ; Prof.N.S.Atri, Vice President; Prof. N. Raaman, Secretary; Prof. M. Sudhakara Reddy, Treasurer : Dr. S. Raghu Kumar, Editor took charge on MSI in Feb 9, 2012. The Secretary stated that the Editorial Board for Kavaka consists of 7 members 1. Prof. B.P.R. Vittal ,Chennai; 2. Prof. N.S. Atri Patiala;3. Prof. T. Satyanarayana, New Delhi; 4. Prof. V. Verma,Jammu 5. Prof.K.R.Aneja Kurukshetra 6. Prof. A.R. Podile Hyderabad;7. Prof. S.F. Rodrigues and nine Members of Council representing from all the parts of the country were nominated earlier continue their service.1. Prof. A. N. Rai, Sagar M.P.; 2. Dr.G.S. Prasad, Chandigarh, Punjab; 3.Dr. (Ms.) Gurvinder Kaur Saini ,Guwahati ,Assam; 4. Dr. M. Krishna Mohan, Jaipur, Rajasthan; 5. Dr. R.N. Kharwar,Varanai,U.P.; 6. Prof. S. Shishupala, Davangere ; 7. Dr. Prakash Deotare, Amravati, Maharashtra 8. Dr. Pratyoosh Shukla Ranchi, Jharkhand; 9.Dr.V. Kumaresan , Mahe, UT of Puducherry. The Secretary informed that for the first time in the history of MSI, each Life Member has been allotted with a unique Membership number, the first 2 digits represent the Number and the last two digits represent the year of joining. The details in the website were updated. A compilation of Fellows of MSI was made. He requested all the Fellows whose name has not been included in the list to send the copy of their certificate. The Secretary informed that there was some serious drive for the enrollmemt members for the Society. There were only 110 Life Members during 2011. Now as on 13.3.2013, 200 Life Members are in MSI. The Secretary has seeked the help of all members and Members of Council for the enrollment of more members and within an year it should be reached atleast around 300. Regarding Kavaka, the Editor and the Editorial Board worked hard to bring the vol.40 (2012) and the despatch of volumen has already started. The Secretary thanked the Editor Dr.Raghkumar for the efforts. There were fruitful efforts particularly by Prof.Reddy to prevail upon the Taylor & Francis Group to publish the Kavaka. But finally they were not willing to publish Kavaka. Hence the Office bearers are looking for the alternatives. The Secretary informed that for the post of President 2013 and the Vice president 2013, nomination papers were sent to all members and nominations were received from the members. Two Nominees were proposed for President 2013 and 3 Nominees were proposed for Vice President. Based on the number of nominations received from the members, Prof.K.R.Aneja, Kurukshetra University was elected as President and Prof.K.R.Sridhar, Mangalore University was elected as Vice President for 2013-14. The Secretary informed that for the award of Fellow of MSI, the format was sent to all members by email. Only One nomination was received. Since the nominee, Prof. Prof. B.F. Rodrigues has significantly contributed to mycology, Prof. B.F. Rodrigues was elected as Fellow of MSI and the award will be during the Valedictory function of the conference. The Certificate with his photo was beautifully designed and Citation for the Fellow was designed and printed.

The Secretary informed that a circular was sent to all the members for the conduct of the next meeting ie. 40th Annual Meeting of MSI. Centre for Advanced Studies in Marine Biology, Annalmalai University, Paringepettaii, Tamil Nadu has sent the request to conduct the 40th Annual Meeting of MSI. It was decided that the 40th Annual Meeting of MSI will be conducted by Centre for Advanced Studies in Marine Biology, Annalmalai University, Paringepettaii, Tamil Nadu.

The Secretary informed that he tried to contact the family members of Dr.S.K.Shome to receive a further contribution of amount in order to continue and increase the Dr.Shome Memorial Lecture award amount. The Secretary informed that Mrs. Shome is expired and he could not collect the contact details of the son or daughter of Dr.Shome. It was decided to utilize a matching amount from MSI fund and to revive Dr.Shome Memorial Lecture Award with the Honorarium amount of Rs.1000 per Lecture. The Secretary informed that Dr.M.C.Srinivasan has made a further contribution of Rs.10,000 towards Dr. M.J. Thirumalachar Award for Young Scientists. It was decided to continue Dr. M.J. Thirumalachar Award for Young Scientists with the Award amount of Rs.400 each for best Oral and Poster presentations by Young Scientists. It was decided that Dr. R.G.Bagool, Mumbai has to deliver Dr.V. Agnihothrudu Memorial Lecture, Dr. J. Savitha, Bangalore has to deliver the Dr.S.K.Shome Memorial Lecture and Prof.D.J.Bagyaraj, Bangalore has to deliver Prof. K. Natarajan Memorial Lecture in the 40th Annual Meeting of MSI.

Prof.M.S.Reddy, Treasurer presented the financial report of the Year. The Editor Dr.S.Raghukumar briefed about Kavaka. The Editor and the Editorial Board worked hard to bring the vol.40 (2012) in time.

The following resolutions were passed in the General body as amendments of Bylaws:

  1. The Officers of the Society shall consist of a President, a Past President, one Vice-president, a Treasurer, a Secretary and one Editor of the Transactions.
  2. Every member shall pay an annual subscription of Rupees Five hundred (Rs. 500/-) due on January 1 each year. Life Membership shall be Rupees three thousand (Rs.3000). An admission fee in each category shall be Rs.50. Nomination for

The format for Election of Fellows of MSI was approved and the Registration and Processing Fee for Nomination for Fellows of MSI is enhanced to Rs.5000. Nominee shall enclose a DD for Rs. 5000/ (Rupees Five thousands only) [Non-refundable] drawn in favor of "Treasurer, Mycological Society of India" payable at Patiala.

Dr.Latha Raghukumar informed the steps taken for the possibility of hosting for Asian Mycological Congress in India. Forty Five members atended the meeting. There was some discussion regarding the election of office bearers instead of nomination. The Secretary told that he will explore the possibility of the election of Office bearers. The meeting was ended by vote of thanks by Prof.D.J.Bagyaraj, the Past Presesident.

During the Seminar, 7 Invited Lectures were delivered apart from several Oral presentations and Poster Presentations. In the Valedictory function, Prof. S.K. Sarangi , Chairman, Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Bangalore University welcomed the gathering. Prof . S.B. Sullia, Jain University, Bangalore summed up the Seminar. Prof.N.Raaman announced the Fellowship Awards and Dr.Thirumalachar Young Scientist Awards. Prof.R.K.Somashekar, Registrar, Bangalore University offered the Valedictory address. Dr. J. Savitha, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

Minutes of the 38th Annual Meeting of Mycological Society of India held at Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati along with the National Conference on Mycodiversity with its Sustainable Exploration and Biotechnological Applications during 6th & 7th February 2012.

The inaugural function of the Conference was held on 6th February, 2012 Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati. Dr. C. D. Mayee, Ex-Chairman, ASRB, ICAR,New Delhi was the Chief Guest and he inaugurated the conference. Dr. V. G. Thakare, Principal & Convenor, Shri Shivaji Science College, Prof. J. A. Tidke, Head, Department of Botany,Director, BCUD & Convenor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and Prof. N.Raaman, Secretary, MSI welcomed the gathering. Dr. P. W. Deotare, Organizing Secretary briefed about the conference. Prof. D.J.Bagyaraj, President, MSI offered the Presidential remarks.Mr.Arun Shelke, President, Shri Shivaji Educational Society delivered the Presidential address. Prof. S. R. Manik, another Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

Soon after the inaugural session, Prof. D. J. Bagyaraj, President, MSI delivered the Presidential address entitled "Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi for Sustainable Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry". Prof. C. Manoharachary delivered the Key Note address on "Diversity of Fungi, sustainable exploration and biotechnology - Aspects and Prospects". Prof. N. Raaman, CAS in Botany, University of Madras delivered the Dr.V. Agnihothrudu Memorial Lecture on "Secondary metabolites from Basidiomycetes: Promising Sources for Immunostimulating, Anticancer and other activities". Prof. T. N. Lakhanpal, Department of Biosciences, H.P. University delivered the Prof. K. Natarajan Memorial Lecture on "The Mushrooms and Mycorrhizal Bio- diversity in NW Himalayas". Dr. R. N. Kharwar, Department of Botany, Banaras Hindu University delivered the Dr. Shome Memorial Lecture on "Fungal Endophytes: Structural and Functional Diversity".

The meeting was chaired by Prof. D.J. Bagyaraj, President, MSI.Prof.N.Raaman, Secretary welcomed the gatherings and he presented the Report of the Secretary. Prof.N.Raaman informed that He informed that the present team of Office bearers with Prof. D.J. Bagyaraj, President, Dr. Chandralata Raghukumar, Past President ; Dr. V. Kaviyarasan, Vice President; Prof. N. Raaman ,Secretary ;Prof. M. Sudhakara Reddy, Treasurer Dr. S. Raghu Kumar, Editor took charge on MSI in March 2011(Mar 25, 2011). The Editorial Board for Kavaka was constituted with 7 members 1. Prof. B.P.R. Vittal, Chennai; 2. Prof. N.S. Atri Patiala;3. Prof. T. Satyanarayana, New Delhi; 4. Prof. V. Verma,Jammu 5. Since all the the nominees have significantly contributed to mycology, all the three (Prof.A.R.Aneja, Prof. A. N. Rai, Dr. R.N. Kharwar) were elected as members of MSI and the award will be during the Valedictory function of the conference. The Certificates with their photos were beautifully designed and Citations for the Fellows were designed and printed. The Secretary informed that for the post of President 2012 and the Vice president, nomination papers were sent to all members and nominations were received from the members. Two institutes expressed their desire organise the next meeting. 1. Dept of Microbiology, Bangalore University, Bangalore 2. Department of Biotechnology, MGR College of Atrs and Science, Hosur. It was decided that the 39th Annual Meeting of MSI Dept of Microbiology, Bangalore University. The Sectretary told that he Kavaka volumes 37 (2009) and 38 (2010) were sent to the members. Similarly the reprints were also sent to the respective authors who were sent articles to Vol.36, 37 & 38.

Prof.M.S.Reddy, Treasurer presented the financial report of the Year. The treasurer informed that the interest from the fixed deposit is not enough to give as Honorarium to the Dr.Shome Memorial Lecture and also the Award Money to Dr. Thirumalachar Award for Young Scientists. Dr.M.C.Srinivasan told that he will contribute a further so that Thirumalachar Award for Young Scientists can be continued. It was decided to stop the Dr.Shome Memorial Lecture for time being and it will be revived if the family members of Dr.Shome will contribute a further amount. It was decided that Prof.N.S.Atri, Patiala has to deliver Dr.V. Agnihothrudu Memorial Lecture and Dr.M.V.Deshpande, Pune has to deliver Prof. K. Natarajan Memorial Lecture.

The Editor Dr.S.Raghukumar briefed about Kavaka. The Editor and the Editorial Board worked hard to bring the vol.39 (2011). Since there was some slight modifications in the pattern of the article style there was some delay in bringing out the volume. There were fruitful efforts particularly by Prof.Reddy to prevail upon the Taylor & Francis Group to publish the Kavaka. There is a possibility the Kavaka volume can be by online access. Dr.Latha Raghukumar suggested that all the Mycological Conferences can be informed through Website. Prof.Manoharachary thanked the Organisers for hosting the MSI meeting.Dr.M.C.Srinivasan suggested for a News Letter. Dr.S.K.Deshmukh suggested that all the Past Presidents and Memorial Lectures can be put in the Website. Dr.K.N.Kharwar suggested that the Society can approach the companies for donation. Thirty Five members atended the meeting. The meeting was ended by vote of thanks by Dr.Chandralatha Raghukumar,the Past Presesident.

During the Conference 4 Invited Lectures and 2 Lead Lectures were delivered apart from several Oral presentations and Poster Presentations. At the end of the scientific sessions, there was a session of Farmer Interaction and Panel Discussion. In the Valedictory function, there was a Felicitation of Legendary Mycologists and Plant Pathologists of Maharashtra. Prof. J. A. Tidke introduced the guests. Prof. S.N.Patil, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University preside over the function. Prof.G.V. Patil, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University was the Chief Guest. Prof.D.J.Bagyaraj, President MSI, and Prof.M.K.Khedkar, Vice Chancellor, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University were the Guest of Honours Dr. P. W. Deotare, announced the Life Time Achievement Awards. Prof.N.Raaman announced the Fellowship Awards and Dr.Thirumalachar Young Scientist Awards. Prof. S. R. Manik, proposed the vote of thanks.
