Role of the Council Members

The governing of the Society shall be vested in a Council selected from among the members, which shall consist of the President and other officers, and nine Ordinary Members of the Council. .  The tenure of the Council members will be three years.

 

Other Roles of the Council Members

MSI shall actively encourage regional councils. 
Regional councils for South, North, West and East of the country will be encouraged.
To begin with, eminent mycologists from each region are nominated as Council members and these Council members are  requested to establish and act as the Secretary of the respective region. 
The regional councils can elect their own Secretaries and members.
The Secretary of each regional council shall inform the National Secretary of the MSI (Prof. N. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)  every half year regarding the activities of the Regional Council. 
Secretaries of the Regional Councils will proactively encourage membership of the MSI and conduct various activities.

 

MSI Units

A Unit of can be formed at any place in India with the approval of the MSI head quarters provided it has a minimum of 20 Life members of MSI. Every city or large town can have a Unit. All members will have the freedom to be associated with a Unit closest to their place of working / residence. Where there is no MSI Unit, members can enroll directly with the MSI through the Main Treasurer.

After the Unit is recognized, it shall be included in the directory of the MSI maintained by the General Secretary of MSI. For recognition of a Unit, the Unit should send a request along with the list of Members enrolled (20 Life Members + annual members) and an initial Recognition Fee of Rs.1000 (DD/ Cheque in favour of the Treasurer, MSI) should be send to the General Secretary of MSI. Members forming the MSI Unit shall convene and elect office bearers of the Unit as mentioned in these regulations. The Unit is also free to form their own rules for management within the framework of the general rules of the MSI for proper functioning of the Unit. The election of office bearers should be held before December every year and the names of the office bearers should be communicated to the MSI General Secretary. A Unit can get back from MSI the admission fee (i.e.Rs.50) of life members enrolled and 20% (i.e.Rs.100) of fee of annual members (Rs.500) enrolled. The amount will be transferred to the Unit on the on or before 31st of December of every year. For forming a new Unit, a minimum of 20 Life members is to be enrolled.

 

Management of MSI Units

Every MSI Unit shall be managed by an Executive committee, responsible to the general body of the particular Unit and MSI. The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, the Secretary and Treasurer and at least 3 members. The term of office of all the office bearers shall be ONE year. Election of these office bearers of the Units shall be held by consensus or by ballot, if necessary. The Unit Secretary shall act as the returning officer for this purpose.

 

Functioning of the MSI Units

The MSI Units shall conduct academic activities to promote the objectives of the MSI by organizing seminars, meetings, conferences etc. with the funds available at their disposal. To sustain the Unit, a nominal fee for the activities of the Unit can be also be collected from the Unit members. The time of the activities shall be arranged so that it should not overlap with the Annual Meetings of the MSI. The Units shall collect membership fee and send the amount immediately to the Main Treasurer of MSI.

Proper accounts shall be maintained in a nationalized bank and reported to the local Unit as well as to the Main Treasurer by the 31st of December every year. The Secretaries of the Units shall send a report to the General Secretary every year, who in turn shall consolidate the same and submit to the General Body Meetings of the MSI. The Units can send the details of their Units' activities periodically to the General Secretary so that he can communicate this to the Members of the MSI.
